Union Symphony would like to express esteem and appreciation for this season’s talented and accomplished competitors for their fine performances in the 2011 Youth Instrumentalists Concerto Competition held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Wingate University Batte Fine Arts Center. Best wishes these exceptional student musicians for their continued success in music.

Many thanks to our judges, Judy Meister and Mekel Rogers. Judy Meister is the concertmaster of Union Symphony Orchestra. Mekel Rogers is the director and conductor of Union Symphony Youth Orchestra. A sincere thanks goes to our friends at Wingate University, and most especially to Polly Bostic who served as accompanist to some of the competitors.

Joanna Reeder is first place winner.A big congratulations goes to our first place winner, Joanna Reeder, daughter of Daniel and Laurie Reeder of Monroe, NC. Congratulations also to our first runner up, Amy Solka, daughter of Jim and Kathy Solka of Ft. Mill, SC. Our finalists were presented their certificates and awards by Union Symphony Chair David Nelms and Union Symphony Board Member Dr. David Clarke who also led the proceedings.

Joanna Reeder performed the Piano Concerto No. 2, 1st movement by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Joanna will have the opportunity to be featured along with the Union Symphony Orchestra in a concert of the 2011–2012 Season.
