The most beautiful Austrian scenery I saw was in the Salzkammergut area, east of Saltzburg, where “The Sound of Music” was filmed. There were many locations used in the film, often many miles away from each other.

Excerpt from the travel journal of Matthew & Stephanie Belk:
It so hard to name just one special moment on the Union Symphony trip to Austria. We had a knowledgeable guide and learned so much.
On our second night in Salzburg, we heard that sometimes the nuns of Nonnberg Convent sing at vespers. The convent dates back to 700 a.d. Five of us hiked no small amount of steps up to the convent and were rewarded with an ethereal service. The nuns voices echoed from behind upper floors since we were not allowed to see them just hear their stunning songs.
On the way back down we came upon a restaurant that had a panoramic view of Salzburg’s roof tops. Our meal was most enjoyably interrupted at 8pm by a cacophony of all of Salzburg’s church bells. A magical time.
