Mekel Rogers has been the Director of Bands at Weddington Middle School since its opening in 1998 and has been teaching in Union County, North Carolina for nearly his entire career. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Appalachian State University and is a founding member of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.
Mekel’s compositions have been performed at various concert band festivals, honor band clinics, and chamber music events throughout the Southeastern United States. Mekel also serves as a guest clinician at various honor band clinics and as an adjudicator for both concert band and marching band festivals.
Mekel’s orchestral experience includes serving as the principal hornist for the Appalachian State University Symphony Orchestra and the Myers Park High School Orchestra as well as occasional performances with the Union Symphony. He has devoted a great deal of time to the study of orchestral repitiore concentrating on the history, structure, and analysis of music from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Mekel’s professional memberships include the American School Band Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, and Kappa Kappa Psi Band Service Fraternity.
