The Southern Fried Jazz Band is a Dixieland jazz band based in Charlotte, North Carolina, whose entrancing music and showmanship have launched it from the Piedmont foothills into the national spotlight. No stranger to that spotlight, leader Don Edwards has shared the stage with Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and many other great jazz musicians over the years. The Southern Fried Jazz Band includes Edwards, trumpet; Jim Ruth, clarinetist; Bill French, pianist; Joey Lee, trombonist; Joe Corne, bassist; Rick Hodges, drummer; and Allie Hutsell, vocalist.
Dixieland music sometimes referred to as hot jazz or Early Jazz, is a style of jazz music which developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century. Southern Fried Jazz Band and Union Jazz will provide entertainment at the Speakeasy, a benefit for Union Symphony on Friday, September 7, 2013.
