Joyful and Triumphant

The Union Symphony Orchestra along with The Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir of First Presbyterian Church performed a Christmas concert, Beauty & Majesty, on Sunday, December 14 at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. The concept of beauty and majesty were contrasted through a musical telling of the enduring story of advent. Under the direction of Kenneth Brown, the program included music such as O Little Town of Bethlehem, O Come, All Ye Faithful and other carols. The Children’s Ensemble and a Women’s Vocal Ensemble also performed as part of the program.


Union Symphony Youth Orchestra, under direction of Tom LaJoie and Prelude Junior Strings Orchestra, under direction of Sabrina Howard performed a Christmas concert, Holiday Fantasia, on Friday, December 12 at Cuthbertson High School. The program included music such as Fantasia on Greensleeves, Sleigh Ride, and Wizards of Winter, as well as a performance by Vivace Strings Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Courtney Guthrie.

2014USYOFANTASIA-159An overture was performed by Allegro Strings. Allegro Strings students were able to attend the concert due to the generous support of new community partner, Piedmont Natural Gas.
