Originally from Joliet, Illinois, David Markgraf received his B.M. in Music Education from Eastern Illinois University and M.M. in Music Performance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Principal teachers include Johnny Lee Lane and Dr. Gary Olmstead. After school David played throughout the South Florida area with many orchestras including Principal Percussion with Palm Beach Opera Orchestra, Greater Palm Beach Symphony, Ballet Florida, Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Boca Raton Symphonic Pops and the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, David has performed with Placido Domingo, Tony Bennett, Henry Mancini, Marvin Hamlisch, Dave Brubeck and Lionel Hampton. While in Florida, David has taught at Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Indian River Community College and Palm Beach Community College. After relocating to North Carolina, David is currently Principal Timpanist and Manager of the Union Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he teaches Percussion at Wingate University and General Music at Piedmont Middle School. When not playing or teaching, David is an avid baseball fan and enjoys spending time with his family.
David performed as solo artist with Union Symphony Orchestra on February 23, 2020 at The Batte Center, Wingate University. He performed the internationally awarded piece, Concerto for Vibraphone, by Emmanuel Séjourné.
